TLBG: Chapter 3 Strategy 3 & 4
Strategy 3: Videos
Recording any event or using videos, is beneficial to all students because all students know how to use this already and they can be used for all subject areas. It is also accessible for all students with a variety of needs. Most importantly videos get students excited to learn something new. I enjoyed the suggestion of using a video to act as an exit slip, in which students record themselves to explain one take away from the class. I also liked the idea of using three facts and fib to scaffold the students' knowledge. The teacher writes three facts and fib on the board before watching the video and then after watching the video the students have to determine which ones are true and false. For the one that is false, they must turn it into a truth. I plan on implementing one of these ideas in my next lesson.
strategy 4: Quick Response (QR) & Augmented Reality (AR)
Thinking about augmented reality, I really enjoyed this idea when using it in the last class. I thought it was a great way to engage the students and also amaze them. It really made me feel like I was in a different world. I like the use of QR and AR in replace of readings. Although reading is important, I think it would be beneficial to supplement readings once in a while, especially if it is not an interesting subject. Although this is not relevant to my subject area, I believe using AR to learn about the inside of the body is great because often times it's hard to learn about what you cannot see. I also really like QR codes because it is a great way for students to easily access games, videos, polls, etc. Rather than waiting for students to go through all different logins, they can directly access the link.
TLNT: Chapter 9
As the chapter stated, almost every classroom incorporates technology but not all classrooms include dynamic, interactive tools to engage students. Although use powerpoint presentations incorporate technology it is a single-medium way of presenting technology. What I strive to use have a multimedia classroom. I believe creating a movie is a fun way to incorporate technology, but I feel that it would take too much time figuring out the technicals of how everything works, rather than focusing on the curriculum. Instead, I would like for my students to create a picture book in which they create a caption underneath the picture describing the background information.

ReplyDeleteYou posed a good point that I never thought of which is to have students do a video of themselves as an exit ticket. The students would love that and changes up the boring pencil and paper routine.
I also thought that using AR last class was so cool! I already know that my second graders would be amazed and think it was magic. Using AR, and QR codes is great to use to boost students engagement within the lesson as well as better inform them on a certain topic. I think this form of technology is great to use for the topics that may be a little harder to comprehend through the use of a book, as you have mentioned.

ReplyDeleteI like your idea about having students create a picture book where they caption their pictures using information they learned, as opposed to having to create a video. I agree that videos can be somewhat time consuming and complicated to understand (at least for me!), so the idea of having something like a video, just in a simpler format, I think is really awesome. In fact, in my classroom observations for one of my other classes, the teacher had her students create their own memes, where they chose from hundreds and different images and created a caption that tied into what they were learning in class. I thought this was really fun and helped keep students engaged.
