TLNT Chapter 12

I found it interesting how this chapter addressed some of the issues that teachers come along when technology is incorporated in the classroom. What really stood out to me what that teachers were unwilling to change their lesson plans to include technology. I believe this is a major issue in education. As a teacher, you must keep up with all changes as different generations come up with different upbringings. Sometimes when teachers become too comfortable, they are unwilling to make any adjustments to their lesson plans for the benefit of their students. However, if they were to do so, they would have a much more productive classroom. I remember when I had teachers who were “old fashioned” I would become disengaged in the lesson and unmotivated to learn. Technology must be built within the lesson, not just incorporated in it, on the outskirts. To become proficient in utilizing technology in the classroom, I will be sure to go to professional development meetings to keep up
to date to develop a technology-leading mind set.

Hey Amber,
ReplyDeleteI loved reading your post. I definitely agree that teachers stuck in the "old-fashioned" ways, who refuse to change their lesson plans to include technology, run the risk of having their students become disengaged from the lesson. I also think it works the opposite way as well, such as teachers strive to integrate technology strictly for the sake of using technology (e.g. long, drawn out PowerPoint presentations), which also has a negative impact on students' motivation and engagement. I think technology integration requires a fine balance, where teachers are able to draw on just the right amount of technology in a way that is meaningful to the lesson at hand.
Hi Amber,
ReplyDeleteI agree when you said about the chapter, "What really stood out to me what that teachers were unwilling to change their lesson plans to include technology." This definitely is a major issue in education because teachers are not implementing the use of technology because of their "old-fashioned" instruction. This hinders students from learning 21st century skills, and may cause students to lose focus during lessons.
