TLNT Chapter 5

            A part of this chapter that really stood out to me was Google. Up until this course, I was not familiar with how to use it. Now that I have been utilizing it, I really enjoy the many features Google has to offer. One of my favorite parts of Google is Google Drive, which allows individuals to work together on a project and even provide feedback on an individual's work. I also like the search engine KidRex, which is a kid-friendly search engine that shows appropriate and relevant sources that students can use. Ensuring that students are presented with appropriate technology tools is essential to incorporating such tools in the classroom. using online resources also enhance students' ability to critically think because not all information is valuable. Some problems of information on the web is 1) misinformation 2) malinformation 3) messed-up information and 4) most-useless information. Although many people are hesitant about using Wikipedia, like me, it can be beneficial to incorporate in a lesson. You can have students compare the information on Wikipedia and other websites to see which one is true. Using technology in the classroom is a great resource, however, you must be a digital citizen, as you would be a good citizen in the real world.

Nurturing Young Innovators Chapter 1

             This chapter focused in on the importance of nurturing students creativity and to be innovative. In order for students to be this, the individuals teaching them must be so too. That is why it is so important, as a teacher, to be creative and know the tools and technology needed to support our students. Creativity is also a great idea to manage classroom behavior. I really enjoyed the idea of a "peace table" in which students who are struggling to get along must play a game together until the students are smiling and laughing with each other. I also enjoy the idea of taking pictures related to a lesson and sharing them in class the next day. For example, taking pictures of the weather outside when learning about the weather. I personally, as I'm sure others, enjoy looking at pictures better than reading an article.  Hence, why I like Instagram better than Twitter. In my future classroom, I also plan to incorporate learning centers that spark creativity and motivation. I am looking forward to implementing some of the ideas from this book in my classroom.

    I also did not know how many great tools Google had for students to use in the classroom! One that really stood out to me that i discussed in my blog post was Google Handwrite. You are able to write directly on your I-pad when searching something on Google. This is very useful for those students with IEPs or just for students in general that would rather write instead of typing, or are having a hard time typing.

    Hi Amber,
    After reading your post I felt the same way about google. I used it last semester and really wasn't used to and felt my friends knew so much more than me. However, this semester I'm using it for all my classes and really got the hang of it now. I really am surprised about how so many people can work on the same file at the same time using google drive. It really is a great tool and I would love to get to know more about it.

    I really enjoy using google drive, not only for my own work but also for my students. In my current classroom, each student has their own school Gmail account. They are allowed to create presentations and share them with the teacher. I think it can be used as a way for the teacher to see student progress on work, individual or group work, and see how students edit their writing.

TLNT Chapter 12 I found it interesting how this chapter addressed some of the issues that teachers come along when technology is incorporated in the classroom. What really stood out to me what that teachers were unwilling to change their lesson plans to include technology. I believe this is a major issue in education. As a teacher, you must keep up with all changes as different generations come up with different upbringings. Sometimes when teachers become too comfortable, they are unwilling to make any adjustments to their lesson plans for the benefit of their students. However, if they were to do so, they would have a much more productive classroom. I remember when I had teachers who were “old fashioned” I would become disengaged in the lesson and unmotivated to learn. Technology must be built within the lesson, not just incorporated in it, on the outskirts. Nurturing Young Innovators: Chapter 5             This chapter speaks mostly about examples and ideas of how early childhood educators can create makerspaces in the three environments they are in most which are; school, home, and community. The makerspaces encourage children to think creatively, work creatively with others, and implement innovations. What I really enjoyed about this chapter, is that it gave step by step instructions of how to get started making for new teachers, like myself. For example, the book stated how to organize bins for STEAM and what materials to put in each bin. They even provided a shopping list, wish list and suggestions to websites that I can use for inspiration such as teacherpayteachers.com, pintrest, and more. TLBG: Chapter 3 Strategy 3 & 4 Strategy 3: Videos  Recording any event or using videos, is beneficial to all students because all students know how to use this already and they can be used for all subject areas. It is also accessible for all students with a variety of needs. Most importantly videos get students excited to learn something new. I enjoyed the suggestion of using a video to act as an exit slip, in which students record themselves to explain one take away from the class. I also liked the idea of using three facts and fib to scaffold the students' knowledge. The teacher writes three facts and fib on the board before watching the video and then after watching the video the students have to determine which ones are true and false. For the one that is false, they must turn it into a truth.
